I started boating 8 years ago and hand paddling 3 years ago. It is really hard for me to go back to a paddle and for many of the reasons you give. Hand paddling is so much easier. I started out just using them for park and play and now I run some creeks with them. They are fantastic when running big water and I've been able to punch through some descent sized holes if I know the line and carry some speed. I feel so much more balanced and not as "tipsy" as I do with a paddle. People ask me all the time why I do it and they

Thanks for the write up. People ask me all the time why I do it and they comment on how much harder (they think it is). About two weeks ago, we played at a wave with about 6600 cfs and a super strong eddy line to cross. They all told me I would never get on the wave with hand paddles - yes, I proved them wrong.

I bought a squirt boat a year ago and a set of power paws to go with it. I like both very much and they certainly showed me how much there is to rethink. Great article thanks, Cominco

I love hand paddling. The best part about rolling is that the off-side comes naturally. Especially if you blow your on-side roll, you can shoot underneath and use the momentum to nail the off-side roll. Plus in the mank you can use the HP's as face guards!

I came to the same realization as you a few years ago, and now I hand paddle every river. There's just so many advantages to the HP's that the slight lack of power just doesn't really matter. I liked your video. You are styling those drops. Makes me want to get a creek boat and run stuff like that!
