LiLi Nepal Recon. Part 1.
07:22 - By Will Clark - News - no comment
After finishing off work in Africa with the last Love it Live it trip on the Nile for this year I'm now in Nepal checking things out, having fun paddling some fantastic rivers with Anton Immler and ultimately putting together a 15 day itinerary for a Love it Live it trip out here next year.
So far things have been going really well, and although we've been having as many rest days as paddle days we've already bagged a first descent. In two days we add a third member to Team Uganda - Anna Bruno. She'll be out here for a good while and we have a pretty full schedule of paddling planned for the next few weeks, ending with the Peakuk kayak festival at the end on November.
Here's a bit of a photo diary of what we've been up to so far.
This was the view as we hiked in to the upper upper Seti a first descent with a gnarly canyon mid way through
Out here porters are essential. Yes you could carry your own boat, but then you'd be too tired to paddle!!
Turnback canyon. An outright mission to get in, almost immpossible to scout and damn right scary to get back out!!
Worth it for this. The 40 footer we found. Way too gnarly at this level. Probably too gnarly at lower water too but we're going back in a few weeks to see if it will go.
After the canyon the Upper upper Seti has some sweet drops. This one was a little tricky and I'm not quite on line but it was all good.
This and the next few photos are from the Modi Khola - a sweet run full of great technical paddling and so many sweet drops one after another
This was a cool rapid with a slide on the rock to avoid the big gnarly hole.
Stoked after nailing that one and not getting worked!!
So all things are good this side of the world really. The sun is shining the rivers are flowing and the atmosphere is pretty chilled. All in all Nepal is fantastic. The rest of this trip should see us doing about 9 other rivers, some hard, others pretty cruisy so I can get a good feel for the place and try out as many options as possible for Love it Live it. Anton and I are going to session the upper Bhote Kosi and hopefully paddle it down from Tibet. We plan to hit up that 40 footer on the Upper Seti, and lastly we aim to tear apart the Kayak Festival in true Ugandan style and maybe even win something!!
Anton and Will after paddling in the dark. Sometimes it's probably a good idea to give yourself 2 days when heading into unexplored territory!!
Take care everyone.
Will.
