Low Volume Creeking in Corsica
20:07 - By Michelle Basso - News - no comment
After a long winter watching the sun low on the horizon I was itching to get back into the creekboat after many paddle strokes in the sea kayak. The sun is now definitely hanging around here in Norway but the temperature is hardly shorts and bikinis. Everyone up high in the Northern Hemisphere dreams of warmer climates once in a while and I also wanted to go somewhere a little warmer to start off the paddling season… thus I found myself part of a great crew of Canadians-Norwegians-Italians that managed to get together in Italy and make their way to the French Island of Corsica.
Having never been to Corsica I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. The small island with large mountains did not fail to deliver. Sweet, tight, low volume creeks were on the menu. My week was filled with tight boulder gardens, plenty of boofs, a few slides and a waterfall or two. Who could ask for anything more? The water levels were ideal and so we fired off the creeks one by one. Good times had by all.
After only a week I had to head back to the land of trolls, fjords and summer sun. But the snow is starting melt here in Norway and the paddling season is starting. It is promising to be a great spring. Hope to see you on the river!
